When the scythe blade edge becomes too thick from hours of sharpening the blade will need to be peened. Peening is "cold" forging and the Picard Freehand Anvil is the tool for those who have a little more experience at peening than the peening jig users. Unlike the jig this anvil requires some skill to learn but gives the user more manipulation of bevel angle and allows for the mending of damage. This anvil MUST be used with the Picard hammer, or a similar polished-faced peening hammer. Someone with a modicum of engineering experience can teach themself how to use this anvil if they are aware of what they set out to achieve. If you are unsure if you can learn without a tutor you may want to go with the peening jig.
